Working together to make a lasting difference by looking after our people, supporting our communities and minimising our impact on the environment.
COMMITTED TO MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT
Welcome to For Our Future – Trafford Centre’s sustainability and social impact programme, which brings together Trafford Centre’s colleagues, tenants and the local community.
Environmental and social aspects are some of the most important challenges faced by companies and organisations across the globe today. Here at Trafford Centre, it’s no different. Our approach to running a responsible business is built on partnership, collaboration and transparency. We’re all about making a positive contribution to our centre and the communities where we live, whilst minimising our impact on the environment.
The core pillars of the For Our Future programme are:
- Achieving Net Zero Carbon in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, whilst working with the centre’s tenant brands to help support their carbon reduction initiatives, as part of Trafford Centre’s Scope 3 commitments
- Enhancing Trafford Centre’s commitment to being a socially responsible business operator and looking after the people who work there
- Becoming a positive environmental role model for other retail businesses

THINGS WE’RE DOING RIGHT NOW
Here are just some of the live projects we’ve recently launched, which are driving positive change both at Trafford Centre and beyond.
BREEAM In-Use is an environmental building accreditation scheme that assesses and rates the sustainability performance of existing buildings, based on a range of factors, including energy efficiency, water consumption, waste management, and the use of sustainable materials. The scheme will provide us with a clear pathway to make the centre more sustainable. Our assessment will commence early this year.
Our tenant handbook for Trafford Centre’s shops and restaurants incorporates advice and regulations aligned to our environmental and sustainable policies. Only through co-operation and collaboration will we achieve the best results. Our new tenant guide also provides environmental regulation information to our brand partners on the design of their spaces..
With the launch of the Government’s Biodiversity Net Gain guidance in February 2023, we are enhancing our efforts in this important area. We have embarked on a comprehensive Biodiversity Enhancement Plan that will deliver significant improvements to our internal and external planting, as well as introducing new bat boxes, bird boxes and beehives.
We offer two opportunities per year for our employees to volunteer during normal working hours with a charity or community organisation close to their heart, or that they would like to support. Volunteering is a great way to support the community and can lead to a happier, more motivated team.
